CARICA and R&B CELLARS WINE TASTING
Please join the Rossmoor Wine and Food Society on Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. in the Donner Room at the Event Center for a tasting of Carica Wines and R&B Cellars wines presented by Kevin Brown, owner and winemaker of R&B Cellars. Both wineries are boutique wineries located in the historic Port of Richmond.
We will begin with the Carica 2016 Sauvignon Blanc with grapes sourced from Sonoma County showing dry and crisp characteristics, balanced acidity, floral aromas and flavors of pear, citrus and tropical fruit with a lingering finish. This wine will be paired with Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese, Dill and Caper Lollipops. We’ll then taste the 2016 R&B Cellars Vivace Viognier, sourced from Lake County, which is crisp with bright acidity and tropical flavors of Meyer Lemon, pineapple and guava. We’ll pair this with Belgian Endive Spears with Dungeness Crab and Tobiko Caviar.
Moving on to three red wines: from Carica 2012 “Siren” Red Blend, a classic Rhone style blend sourced from Mendocino County, showing bright fruit flavors of red cherry and currant, balanced with earthy mid notes, a hint of cocoa and a smooth finish, paired with Smoked Chicken Salad with Dates and Raisins served on Belgian Endive; We’ll then taste a 2012 R&B Cellars Sydeco Zinfandel, sourced from the Napa Valley, this is a dark, rich and intense wine with flavors of blackberries and black cherries, dark cocoa, toasty vanilla, zesty spice and subtle tannins. This wine will be paired with an appetizer of Potato Bites with Bacon, Chives, Caramelized Onions and Creme Fraiche served in a Phyllo Cup; Our last tasting from R&B Cellars, a non-vintage “Romance of the Vine” Bordeaux Blend sourced from the Napa Valley, and exhibiting a deep, dark nose of blackberries, savory meats, and exotic spices, followed by a balanced, rich and complex palate of dark berry fruits, dark chocolate with a long finish. This will be paired with an appetizer of Filet of Beef Carpaccio with Tete de Moine Cheese Flowers and Red Pepper Aioli on Crostini. And of course, as usual, we will complete the tasting with delicious chocolates.
The cost for this experience is $35 for members and $45 for guests. Please make your reservations early and note that all reservations must be received no later than August 2, 2018. No refunds can be given after that date since all monies must be paid to the caterer at that time.
