Please join the Rossmoor Wine and Food Society on Thursday June 28, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. on the Peacock Plaza at Gateway for a Caribbean themed dinner. Dinner will begin with appetizers including Seafood Ceviche in a Phyllo Cup, Fried Plantain with Jerk Beef, Coconut Aioli with a Cilantro Garnish and Caribbean Coconut Shrimp Brochettes. A blended Rum Rita Cocktail made with Frozen Mango cubes and Limeade then mixed with Rum and Triple Sec will begin the evenings festivities. A Greek White wine, Skouras 2016 Moscofilero, an elegant balanced medium bodied wine with a long finish and opulent aromas of white flowers and honeysuckle rounded out with notes of citrus fruits and lime will also be served with the appetizers.
Dinner will begin with a Caribbean Salad with Mandarin Oranges, Pineapple Chunks, Dried Cranberries, Green Onion, Chia Seeds, Sesame Seeds, Cilantro and Black Beans, with a Honey-Lime Dressing. This will be followed by your choice of Jerk Pork, marinated in a mixture of spices including allspice, cinnamon, cloves, and lemon juice OR a Vegetarian Sweet Potato Caribbean Curry with Chickpeas, Onion, Ginger, Peas and a Creamy Polenta. Both entrees will be accompanied with Jamaican Rice with Red Apple, Onion, Banana and Coconut Flakes, Roasted Zucchini, Portobellini, Sun-dried Tomatoes and Red Onion with Olive Oil and seasonings. A basket of Hard Do Bread also called Hardo Bread, a slightly sweet crusty bread will be served with dinner. High on the Hog Red, a wine blend of (GSM) Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre with loads of black cherry, white pepper, black tea and hints of smoked meat on the flavorful finish and a 2017 Domaine de Pellehaut a well rounded blend of six white varietals, displaying fragrant notes of lime zest, tropical fruit and white flowers, balanced by a refreshing acidity will accompany dinner. The evening’s Caribbean culinary adventure will conclude with a Coconut Tart served with a dollop of whipped cream and a glass of Frangelico.
The cost for the Summer Plaza Dinner is $65 for members and $75 for guests. If you are unable to attend after you have sent in your reservation, please contact Helen Kane 660-9880 or Louise Ng 997-3335 so that we may call those members on our wait list. If we are able to fill your space we will send a refund to you.
Please make your reservations early and note that all reservations must be received no later than June 14, 2018. No refunds can be given after that date since all monies must be paid to the caterer at that time.
