Wine Tasting – Donner Room at the Event Center
Jodar Vineyards and Winery
Please join the Rossmoor Wine and Food Society on Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. for a tasting of Jodar Vineyards and Winery wines in the Donner Room of the Event Center. The Jodar Winery overlooks the American River Canyon, and is located near the edge of El Dorado National Forest at 2,400 feet elevation in an area the locals know as “Mosquito” in California’s “Mother Lode” Gold Country. We will experience and share a tasting of five of their specially selected wines presented by Mitchell, a representative from their tasting room, who will share some of his extensive wine knowledge with us to add to our enjoyment of the wines. The Jodar family literally blasted the vineyard from the granite hillside to launch a journey that is still in progress. In the spring of 1986, the task of carving terraces in the steep and rocky terrain was completed and a small army of friends and relatives was recruited to plant the first 4,200 vines.
Specially selected appetizers will be paired with each of the wines. We’ll begin our tasting experience with the 2015 Estate Reserve Chardonnay, a great classic Chardonnay, which showcases beautiful color, citrus on the nose, clean crisp feel with hints of lemon and pineapple.
The 2015 Sangiovese, an Italian varietal has received rave reviews. This wine is deep ruby red with rich aromas of cherries and strawberries spiced with cinnamon and anise. The fruit comes through on a long silky finish. The 2014 El Dorado Zinfandel, a full bodied wine, is ruby red in color with perfectly balanced fresh acidity. This wine presents raspberries, plums, cinnamon and vanilla on the palate with a hint of black pepper. The 2013 Estate Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon will complete our red wine flight, brilliant maroon in color with aromas of vanilla, cola, cedar and red currant with a hint of the holiday spices. This wine has velvety tannins and a long smooth finish.
We will finish with the 2016 release of the Non-Vintage Black Bear Port. For over 25 years the Jodar family has been producing “Best of Show” and Gold and Double Gold Ports. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, this wine is full of rich cherries, vanilla and subtle spices and will be paired with chocolate and walnuts to complete our tasting experience.
Cost for this Wine Tasting Event is $25 per member or $30 per guest. Our events fill quickly and the wine tastings are no exception.
