Pedroncelli Winery
Please join the Rossmoor Wine and Food Society on Thursday, August 31, 2017 for a tasting of Pedroncelli Wines in the Donner Room at the Event Center from 4:00 – 5:30. Gina Riveras, a representative from Pedroncelli Winery will present and discuss the wines served. Pedroncelli has remained a family run winery since 1927 when Giovanni (John) Pedroncelli purchased 90 acres of hillside land west of Geyserville, 25 acres of which were planted mostly with Zinfandel. Nine decades strong, this winery is still family owned and operated. This all adds up to tradition, heritage and a family of wines you can enjoy with confidence.
Specially selected appetizers will be paired with each of the wines. There will be an opportunity to purchase Pedroncelli wines at this event with reduced shipping costs.
We will begin our tasting with the 2012 Sauvignon Blanc a refreshing light wine that is aromatic with lemon grass, lime and honey notes. The flavors are layered with zesty grapefruit, green apple and honeydew melon. This will be followed by their Signature Chardonnay Dry Creek; pineapple, mango and peach aromas lead to juicy fruit flavors of ripe peach, sweet spices, pineapple, loaded with tropical fruit notes and a creamy texture. Highlighted by bright acidity, the wine finishes clean and refreshing.
We’ll begin our red wines with the 2012 Sangiovese. This grape is known as the backbone of Chianti. The Sangiovese aroma is highlighted by ripe berry and plum along with a hint of warm spice. The taste is full flavored, soft and balanced and this medium bodied wine is well integrated. The 2011 Mother Clone Zinfandel, is a classic Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel. This is considered to be Pedroncelli’s flagship wine. The vines for this wine are a second generation vineyard cloned from the original “Mother” vines of which one quarter of an acre exist today. This well balanced wine shows all the best of Zinfandel from Bing cherry and berry aromas to the spicy black pepper dancing on your tongue at the finish.
We will complete the tasting with the Three Vineyards Cabernet. Rich aromas of red plum, sage and toasted oak introduce this Cabernet Sauvignon. Ripe cherry fruit, black olive and black pepper spice follow on the palate. The wine showcases the fruit with a bit of jammy blackberry and a spicy finish, a richer vintage showing firm tannins and good acidity. This will be complimented by chocolates served alongside the cabernet to complete the tasting.
