Jessie’s Grove Winery
Please join the Rossmoor Wine and Food Society on Thursday, October 12, 2017 for a visit to Jessie’s Grove Winery in Lodi. The Ranch and Estate were founded in 1868 and throughout the years, have endured The Great Depression, prohibition, and the extreme conditions unique to this time in history. The property is currently 320 acres, with 265 acres of premium vineyards. Some of these vines were planted in the 1800’s making them the oldest Zinfandel vines in the Lodi Appellation still producing today. During our wine tasting we will be joined on the back patio by Jessie's granddaughter, Wanda. She will tell us about the family history, bringing it all to life.
We will begin our afternoon of tasting with a seated wine tasting featuring 5 of Jessie’s Grove hand crafted limited production wines. Being a relatively small winery, they tend to sell out of wines and cannot determine at this time which specific wines will be available the day of our visit. However, as some wines sell out, others are newly released so that the winery always has a wonderful variety of wines. We anticipate our tasting will begin with the 2015 Chardonnay; balanced with vanilla and tropical fruit flavors which combine to complement a rich, warm oak finish. The 2016 Jessie’s Rose is an ancient Vine Carignane Rose with a refreshingly tart strawberry finish. The 2012 Vintner’s Choice Reserve will begin our red wine tasting. This wine has bright black cherry and deep blackberry flavors with subtle hints of clove and black tea that give a rich oak finish. An old vine Zinfandel, the 2011 Fancy Quest is a rich, deep, dark fruit experience with a silky finish. Its smooth dried cranberry fruit unfolds to intense black cherry. Last but not least the 2013 Petite Sirah, with a nose of raspberries, a hint of smoke and black cherries with an oak finish will complete our tasting.
Bueno Italiano will cater our lunch, with owner Sara and four generations in the kitchen. Enjoy a plated and served lunch beginning with fresh baked Foccacia, a green salad with walnuts and feta dressed with a maple Dijon vinaigrette. An entrée of homemade pasta in a marinara sauce, BBQ Tri Tip and Chicken in a creamy pesto sauce will be served. We’ll then enjoy a decadent cheesecake with fresh berries and whipped cream. Specially selected wines will be paired with our lunch.
Our bus will leave Gateway at 10:00 a.m. to arrive at the winery by 11:30 a.m. for our wine tasting, lunch will be served at 12:15pm. We will return to Rossmoor at approximately 3:30 p.m.
