Holiday Dinner at the Fireside Room
Enjoy a taste of France
Please join the Rossmoor Wine and Food Society on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 for a special French–style holiday dinner. To welcome in the holiday season, we will experience a delightful meal served in the beautifully decorated Fireside Room and catered by Wilma Lott Catering. The featured dishes will include varied profiles that will create intriguing wine pairings and an evening of wonderful flavors. The evening will begin with cocktails and appetizers served at 6:00 PM, Mini Brie en Croute with Fig Preserves, Mushroom and Goat Cheese Tartlets and Olive Tapenade on Crostini. A festive “Lords a Drinkin” cocktail made of cognac, Grand Marnier, cranberry juice and topped with a splash of pineapple juice will accompany the appetizers. French Adam Pinot Blanc from the Alsace region will also be served. This wine is a light fruit forward white wine with floral aromas, fresh and elegant with a fine acidity for balance to pair well with light appetizers.
Dinner will begin with a French Onion Soup topped with a sliced Baguette and melted Gruyere Cheese. The Entrée will feature Seared Duck Breast with Cherries and Port sauce, Potatoes Au Gratin with Gruyere Cheese and leeks, Roasted Haricot Vert Bundles, and a festive winter garnishment. Baskets of sliced Baguette with butter will be placed at each table. The meal will be paired with a French Chanson Vire-Clesse, a White Burgundy with refreshing aromas of citrus, mixed with honey and enhanced by minerality. Also to be served will be a French Raison Cotes-du-Rhone, a light to medium bodied red wine blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mouvedre, with bright forward fruit of cherry, plum and anise aromas, providing flavors that lead to a very pleasant finish. We will complete this celebratory meal with a luscious Chocolate Ganache Decadence Cake with Raspberry Sauce and topped with a whipped cream rosette. The Franc, from M. Cosentino, has been specially selected to pair with the chocolate dessert. This wine is a Classic Cabernet Franc from a blend of three appellations exhibiting cherry and wild berry – laced Franc with a touch of herb, tobacco and sage. It is a complex and easy drinking wine with polished tannins.
Cost for this holiday celebration dinner is $65 per member or $75 per guest. Our events fill quickly and the holiday dinner is no exception. Please note that all reservations must be received no later than November 18, 2015. No refunds after November 18, 2015 when the number of attendees is given to the caterer.
